What is a Nurse Practitioner?

A Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse with advanced education and clinical training in a healthcare specialty area.  They deal with people of all ages and health problems.

Nurse Practitioners conduct exams, diagnose problems, treat conditions, order tests and write prescriptions.  They practice under their own license and are regulated by the Nurse Practice Act.  They are board certified in their specialty area.  Nurse Practitioners work in collaboration with physicians and provide excellent, comprehensive care with respect and empathy.
